One of the world's most iconic natural wonders, the Grand Canyon reveals nearly 2 billion years of Earth's geological history through layer upon layer of colorful rock. Carved by the Colorado River over millions of years, the canyon stretches 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep. The South Rim is open year-round with numerous viewpoints and services, while the more remote North Rim offers a quieter experience (closed mid-October to mid-May). Hiking ranges from easy rim trails to challenging descents into the canyon.
